I watched Take the Lead tonight, because Antonio Banderas is yum, and discovered that my fangirly obsession with Zuko doesn't quite extend to Dante Basco, even when he's busting a move. I had no idea what he looked like in real life! Now I'm like, "Oh, yeah, I've seen that guy all over the place." Somehow the voice just never clicked. Which is weird, because I will usually recognize a voice before a face, especially if it's one I particularly like, as is the case with Zuko/Dante. But apparently the first time I was exposed to it was way back in Hook, so it's little wonder it didn't take at the time.

And I really am going to get back into ballroom. Put Alan's long legs to some use.

... Y'know, I don't think we've ever danced. This needs to be remedied!

DUDE.

That is all, I have no other words to describe it. Except maybe omg or whoadamn.

I am totally going to willingly pay to see it again. And maybe again after that once I'm in New Zealand with Alan. Maybe if I watch it like hundreds of times I'll find some tiny nitpick that sort of niggles at me. But in the meantime, it's solid win. With caramel-flavored awesomesauce all over it.

So I took some time off today and went to see Prince Caspian. Whoa, the pretty. Caspian is absolutely sex on a stick and if I were Susan... anyway. Also Edmund is surprisingly cool. And I realized as I was watching the movie that I think I haven't actually read the book. I thought for sure I'd read Caspian. Perhaps I'm just remembering The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Reepicheep, as expected, was made of frickin' WIN. Though I'm not sure I would have recognized Eddie Izzard's voice if I hadn't known to be listening for it.

And, 'cause it bugs me: spoilers )

Now, once upon a time, I read a really fantastic bit of fanfiction centered on Susan after The Last Battle. I can't remember the title or the author or even where I read it. But she turns into some philanthropist socialite... I know it's vague but I can't remember any other details. Ring any bells for anyone?

Eeee, yay! Stargate: The Ark of Truth was at the top of my Netflix queue, but it said there was a "long wait" so I thought I'd have to make it through a week or so of movies lower down on my list before it became available. But I just checked and they're sending it out TODAY!!! *happy dance*

janetlin: (Hello Cthulhu)
Lately I've been in the mood to watch She Creature (which is surprisingly fantastic for its genre), so I went trawling around and I had to snicker at the plot keywords for it on Amazon:

"Plot Keywords: Strangulation Orgasm | 1900s | Stockings | Talk To Mirror | Told In Flashback | Underwater Scenes | Female Bonding | Sailor | Sex Scene | Show Business | Sea Life | Screaming"

Oh, that makes it sound so bad. I really must own this movie...

[livejournal.com profile] realta_dubh thank you for pointing this out.

Sweeney Todd is hard_core_, man. I can't wait. Is it a musical like the play? Either way, I'm sure it will be absolutely fantastic (hopefully between now and Christmas I will get over laughing at the Beethoven-esque hair, though).

OMG with Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett (whose batshit craziness is much better here than as Bellatrix Lestrange), and ALAN RICKMAN as Judge Turpin!!!!!

300 in 15 minutes

Lovely, hilarious stuff, as per usual.

So. 300? Rocks the house. Not pretty - well, I mean not a pretty story or subject matter, but it was artfully done and Gerry Butler was, as always, mmmmmm Gerry. Had a couple squicky moments, but this is a war movie and that's to be expected. And at one point the theater burst into applause (yours probably will too, if/when you see it). I'll leave the more eloquent review to [livejournal.com profile] mermaidrain, but it's Good Stuff.

Oh sweet Jesus: Sean Bean and Tilda Swinton as Macbeth and his Lady. I'm all weak in the knees already. And I want them to hurry up and start production and release photos and make the thing so I can watch it!

Can I stand in line for tickets, like, right now?

Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] honorh for pointing it out.

((Yes, I know the quote is from Hamlet))
