I realized a while ago that I wasn't going to finish my story in 50,000 words. Which was shocking. 50k sounded like _so_ much when I started and now I look at the 30k I have now and am like, "Nothing has happened." Now I'm not sure if I'll get the 50k done by the end of the month. Last week goofed me up pretty badly. Now I need to write 2700 a day (including Wednesday) in order to finish on time. And so far my _record_ production is 2800 a day. So yeah.

To those who were reading my progress, sorry but I won't be posting chapters now. It's going to get messy and possibly not even coherent as I try to get as much of the story down as I can, even if it's just sketching transitions so I can focus on the important benchmark scenes which will hopefully bring in the word counts I need. Hopefully this will go faster, because those transitions are the hardest thing to write and they slow me way down. [livejournal.com profile] eonone, you may yet get your Lucissa seckz. ;)

Whew, after three days of zero productivity, I finally get some words down. NaNo said my words per day to finish in time was 2279 today, and I squeezed out 2537 (which, btw, is my second highest daily count to date). Yay! That's not a _whole_ lot of ground made up, and NaNo is still counting Wednesday the 26th as a day in which to write 2,000+ words, and it will likely be another negligible production day. Also, I have a draft of a research essay due for workshop in my Shakespeare class on Monday. Yeah. I'll give you two guesses how far along in that I am as of this moment.

In happier news, the Environmental Science final I have down on my calendar as beign on the 25th has been moved to Dec 2nd. Huzzah.

In the meantime, though, I'm going to roll around in the pretty green box on my calendar here.

Whee, the NaNo Validator is up and says I have more words than MSWord does! _Much_ nicer than going the other way...

22,695 and whew! _Still_ behind but I'm quite happy to report that not only did I meet my daily goal (which I was dismayed to realize yesterday _increases_ every time I don't meet it), but exceeded it with a bit of buffer. My daily goal for tomorrow is therefore less now. The downward spiral of not meeting the daily count making it harder to meet it in the future is kind of sucky, but the opposite side of it is pretty cool indeed.

So yaaaaay green box on my calendar!!

And unless I'm worse at math than I think I am, if I can keep up with writing 2,000 words per day (even on Wednesday, which will be tricky), I can be caught up in exactly a week, giving me one remaining week of the not-so-frantic 1667 words per day pace. And if I succeed at writing 2k per day for a whole week, I expect I won't be able to just stop 400 words shy of what I've become used to, so I might (dare I say it?) actually finish early. *gasp*

More realistically, if I just ignore the existence of Wednesdays when considering how many days I have left in the month, I will need to really bring my game and do 2200 per day and I'll be caught up by Monday the 24th. Yeep!!

So, that's my margin. 2,000 - 2,200 words per day. At least.

*rolls up sleeves*

*stops wasting writing time doing silly math*

20k shoutout! Nearly halfway, eeeeeee! Dude. I don't think I'm anywhere _near_ halfway, plot-wise. I may hit 50k and be done with the challenge before my story is done. :0 Never thought I'd say something like that.

Oh, Wednesdays, you ruin me. Yeah, those solid red lines? The 5th and 12th.

So in order to be on track I should be at 21,667 right now, and I'm... not there yet. Two thousand is a good chunk to be down by, but I'm pleased to notice that it kind of stays around there instead of snowballing and getting further and further behind every day. So I expect that if I _didn't_ have my busy Wednesdays making me lose entire days, I'd totally be rocking this thing. Stuff to keep in mind for next year.

Only 17 days left. And two of those are Wednesdays. *grimace*

14,600+!!! Why hello there, creepy humpbacked oracle/potion maker, where did you come from?

Not sure whether it's a good or a bad thing that some random unknown character has thrown herself in Narcissa's path...

EDIT: 15k. I think this means creepy humpbacked oracle/potion maker was indeed a good thing.

Broke 13k, woot!! Gosh that's a lot of writing. Helped a lot by the fact that I remembered in the very wee hours of this morning that 1979 was a very bad year for the House of Black, and that at least _some_ mention of funerals should be made. "Some mention of funerals" turned into a few pages of action at one funeral. Huzzah!

Also, I told Mom what I'm doing and she didn't look at me crazy.  She said, "Sounds great, I want to read it!" which is _always_ her response to any mention of me writing anything.  But still.  Yay for cheerleaders!

Just hit 10k!!! *dies* I didn't realize until just now that I hadn't really expected to make it this far.

Also, Walburga Black is a raging bitch. No surprises there. But I think I actually kind of understand why she is the way she is, now. Did _not_ expect that to happen.

Another chapter down. I'm still behind where I'm supposed to be (10k yesterday), but am catching up. And since I don't have classes today, if Mom doesn't keep me too busy getting the apartment ready for our Christmas shopping party/open house/product expo thing on Sunday, I should be able to recover that lost ground. Yay! The next chapter should take Narcissa in a new direction with her life, the bigger step away from canon, and maybe also introduce the character who sort of muscled his way in, though I may just make him wait on principle.

Have fallen off the wagon today. Rather, yesterday. It was a Wednesday and I knew my writing would be curtailed, but _damn_, I didn't realize that I would not get a single word written. Shite.

Also I discovered today that apparently I have migraines. So that odd blind spot and vague sort of fuzzy/tingly feeling down my whole right side Tuesday night was _not_ me having a stroke or an aneurysm or suddenly developing diabetes. I'm very glad to hear it. The headache that persisted today despite food and Tylenol, not so much. The doc at the Student Health Center gave me a scrip for 800 mg ibuprofen, a note for class today, and instructions to take it easy and take a day off studying. So voila, day off. See you all tomorrow.
