janetlin: (Nature: fall)
It spat on me this morning as I was driving Morgan to school. Yick. Looks like [livejournal.com profile] silverflight will get her fallish weather. The news last night even said there was a possibility of snow in the mountains. WTF?

On the upside, maybe if it gets cold enough, [livejournal.com profile] kiwifruitbat will stop kicking off the blanket.

Went to the "soft opening" at Kohl's and got some crazy sales. We saved more money than we spent, how awesome is that? Got new jeans (what with the skinny jean craze I'd forgotten how nicely bootcut accentuates my hips. The yay of that is mitigated by the fact I had to get them in a "short" length. Boo) and some boots that are steampunky goodness, and random bits of jewelry because I've decided I'm going to get back into wearing it.

Morgan has lost _three_ teeth this month. Her teacher has a special cape one gets to wear when one loses a tooth, and also a chart where she writes the names of the kids who have lost teeth each month, so it's a BIG DEAL. Morgan's grin is so cute and snaggly now. Thank goodness it didn't start until _after_ school photos, though.

She's doing fantastically. We just got her first progress report and the teacher had nothing but glowing things to say about her. She even stays on task when the other kids are trying to distract her. Yay! She's got 100% on all her tests and homework so far (I don't remember having homework in kindergarten, do you?). But at least once a week, sometimes twice, we get an ouch report that she fell during recess or PE. She does run a little wonky. We got her new shoes, proper tennies instead of the sandals or slip-ins she'd been wearing, so hopefully that will help. If not it will definitely be something to bring up with her orthopedist next time we go in. In the meantime she's quite jazzed about her new Skechers (I also don't remember being brand-conscious in kindergarten. What's the world coming to?). She wants me to paint her fingernails dark purple, which I thought would not be okay with her school's dress code but turns out it's fine. Sigh.

Okay, so I think I just figured out what is _up_ with milk in this house.

1. We buy gallons of milk (skim for me, whole for Morgan and recipes). Morgan and I like to drink milk straight, and several of our favorite dishes call for it.

2. Milk is not consumed in the quantities expected, and goes bad in the fridge. I discover this the hard way. Yick

3. Next grocery run, we buy half-gallons so as not to be wasteful this time.

4. I finally get to drink the milk I was craving when I discovered the last batch was bad, rediscover my love for it, and blow through it at a rate of 2-3 glasses a day. You know, so as not to be wasteful. It lasts less than a week.

5. Next grocery run, we buy full gallons so as not to run out again so quickly. Besides, Morgan and I like to drink it straight, and several of our favorite dishes call for it. I try to hold myself back and make it last.

6. Milk is not consumed in the quantities expected, and goes bad in the fridge....

If only they made a 3/4 gallon, we'd be set. ;)

Some guy totally tried to hit on me today. I was in Borders, trying to pick out a wedding planner, and this guy was sort of lurking around the end of the row I was in. I figured he was looking at foreign language stuff and didn't think much of his presence. Then eventually he walks over to me and asks, "So are you reading anything interesting lately?" and I was like huhwha?

"No, I'm just... trying to pick a wedding planner," I replied, holding up the one I had in my hands.

"Oh, wedding planner. I guess that means you're engaged, huh?"

"Yeah, we're getting married in January."

"Well, I don't want to interfere with your relationship, so I'll just... hope you have fun planning." and he walked away.

Why does no one hit on me when I'm single?! Not that I'm really bemoaning any lost opportunity with this particular guy, but in general.

So I walked up to the register and texted Alan as I was standing in line. He laughed and asked me if I got the guy's number. :p

Oh, and also, a guy checked me out on the last day of class. I was wearing this navy blue and white polka-dot dress, with sort of an empire waist and princess seams, a little above knee-length. Not particularly showy, but it is flattering. So I walked into British Lit and I swear he actually looked me up and down. I've never actually caught a guy _looking_ before, you know? That's kind of neat. I wish there'd been another day of class so I could wear something flirty and see if he looked at me again.

The office had our Tax Day dinner tonight. Much fun was had, yummy Itailan food was eaten, and very very yummy sweet & fruity pink martinis were drunk. Except by [livejournal.com profile] kikimo_1405, who had lemon drops with my mom. It was a fantastic excuse to get a new outfit with fantastically sexy strappy black shoes which are surprisingly comfortable. So I was a _little_ overdressed in regards to everyone else at the table (except for Katy's oldest son - ten years old - who was duked out in a sport coat and tie, albeit a clip-on), but I go out so seldom and haven't bought myself pretty new clothes in a while.

Oh, and while I was out shopping, I got my ears pierced again. By a girl who _totally_ looks like Alyson Hannigan. I hadn't really thought about it until like two days ago, but ever since then I've been like "hmm..." so while I was in Claire's I saw this cute 2-pair of earrings, shiny black round studs and thin black hoops and that inspired me. Now, I was like six or seven when I first had my ears pierced, so I had forgotten that one has to leave the piercing studs in for six weeks. Oops. So I didn't get to wear both of my new pairs of earrings tonight, but someday I will and it will be super-cute. Also, yay that my hair is long enough to put up with hair sticks again! Wish I knew where my old ones were...

How cool is that?! So I have an extra sweatshirt now. ETA: Which [livejournal.com profile] kiwifruitbat just claimed.

What I went into Wal Mart this morning to buy:

*black flats
*knee-length black slip (all my slips are from back in the day when I was wearing _much_ shorter skirts than I do now)
*_maybe_ new boots

What I came home with:

*two black slips - one just above the knee, one just below
*two longish skirts - one solid grey, one black plaid
*one long-sleeved black knit tunic top (for the skirts)
*two black bras (for the new top)
*one short-sleeved brown knit top that only buttons to mid-rib and therefore needs:
*one cream-colored camisole
*brown low-rise slacks (which omg are actually flattering)
*v-neck shirt to go with brown slacks
*v-neck shirt same style as above but in shades of blue ('cause I can't completely escape my tendency toward blue)
*Disney princess trick-or-treat basket for Morgan

... I only remembered as I was driving away that I had intended to go down to Evangeline's in Old Sac and get a new Halloween costume with the remainder of my latest paycheck afterwards. What remainder? Eh well. Real clothes will serve me better in the long run, anyway. I've been getting tired of my lack of diversity in cool-weather clothes.

So I'm apparently in a pink mood lately. I hadn't thought about it until I was touching up my fingernails this afternoon (which are pink), and then realized that my trip to Wal-Mart had resulted in two pink bras (they are at least different shades), a set of pink-and-white pajamas, and a rose-colored shirt. Plus sundry stuff for Morgan, but that's beside the point.

This is so bizarre. I'm not a "pink" kind of girl. Where did this all come from?!

The trick to keeping Sierra moderately happy while at the airport to see Alan off again: buy books while there. It helps a little.

I should really pay more attention to Boromir.

On my way home from dropping Morgan off this morning, I popped into Wal Mart to get a pair of driving gloves (as mine have been eaten or something). Well, the gloves are right next to the wallets, and the one I'm using currently is rather fat, even when it's empty, and for a while now I've been wanting one that's skinny enough I could actually carry it in a pocket, instead of a purse. Speaking of purses, those are right next to the wallets and gloves, too. And I find one that's a nice size in between my little zebra handbag that only carries my wallet and cell phone, and my larger Audrey Hepburn bag in which I could fit a full 8 1/2 x 11" notebook. And it's only five bucks. Heck, why not?

On my way to the registers, I remember that I had wanted to get two more skeins of yarn so I could finish my latest Handmade Hugs blanket, so I head over to crafts, and between Accessories and Crafts I find this very nice dark charcoal grey woolen skirt.....

Yeah.

I actually at one point had _two_ skirts in my basket, though, and my willpower made me put back one. It's a small victory, but it counts.
