Doctor Who: the End of Time, part 1
Okay, so. That was not remotely my favorite hour of Doctor Who. However, I'm cutting RTD more slack than I usually do. It was only the first part, and much may be explained come New Year's and the conclusion. The overall feel was... kind of hectic and thrown-together, but until proven otherwise I'm thinking that was purposely done to set the mood of imminent chaos. Which worked. But it made the non-chaotic bits (with Wilf) feel rather out of place. Which is a shame because they were my favorite parts.
I loved the Doctor admitting that he needs someone with him. Donna told him as much way back when. Please please let something be done to fix her. I know she would probably never be a regular on the show again, or even appear at all after this next regeneration, but they really do need to tie up that loose end. She is just too awesome to let her just kind of fall by the wayside like that.
Nice to see Lucy again, though I prefer my Saxons well-dressed, thank you very much. Crazy Master is crazy and wtf is up with those weird powers? Was that part of his resurrection or is that a Time Lord thing? Bizarre.
Oh, and the mysterious woman in white who keeps appearing to Wilf? My money is on Romana. Or maybe grown up/regenerated Susan. But mostly Romana.
Wow, real Time Lords. How can they come back if they were destroyed? And why are they _cheering_ for the end of time?
I am really not sure what the Master's purpose was in turning everyone in the world into himself. Though the shots of him in dresses were terribly amusing. I wonder if they really dressed John Simm up or if it's all just
So I'm... well, I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to part 2. I am emphatically _not_ on board with David Tennant leaving the show, but at this point maybe it's like a mercy killing, you know? Ten is just... there's something not right about him and frankly it's getting hard to watch. I mentioned this last time with Waters of Mars and unfortunately it hasn't gotten better. So, I don't know, maybe it'll be a fresh start? I'm still mad that one is even necessary. It seems petulant of RTD to just pack up all his toys and make the next team start basically from scratch.
But that rant is a little off-topic so I'll stop.
Yes. Left wanting!
And, if the Time War was locked... aaaah, it just doesn't make sense, and I agree -- it felt slapped together.
And -- I hold that TWoM was a better sort of swan song for DT -- in the end, it felt wrong. I am not looking foward to the Matt Smith season, but I do know people who love it, so I am going in with an open mind.
