Another good grade

Woot! 88% on last week's writing assignment, though again with requests for additional detail. This time I knew there would be, though. This project was "creative nonfiction" and so I wrote the story of how my paternal grandparents met. Neither of them are available for comment these days (kicking myself for not interviewing Granny before she died last year), and I didn't have time to call & ask my dad. So there's a lack of the little flavoring particles like what kind of dress Granny wore to their first dance, what kind of car Gramps was driving, the songs on the radio, etc.

I scored in the 90's on all the rest of the work for the week; the daily writing journal, the reading discussion forums, and the peer evaluation workshop. The teacher has left me little notes saying, "your submissions were the best submitted this week" and referring other students to my responses in the discussion forum as the depth of thought she likes to see. Never been the teacher's pet before, this is kind of cool.

Couplets: Home

There I played in mountain forests
Here I am trapped in open space

I traveled east for a family not mine
The sun returns to the west, and I envy her

My child is growing among people I don’t know
They love her but it still isn’t right

To return is to leave,
Abandon the one who brought me here

But this place is a cancer on my soul
I feel my life fading every day

Am I running to salvation,
Or just running away?

Repetition: The Cycle

Little one born
Daddy kisses Mommy
he says:

Baby, I love you

First day of school,
Hugs outside the car
Mommy says:

Baby, I love you

Girl meets boy,
You know how it goes
she says:

Baby, I love you

Let’s get married
In a white dress and tux
they say:

Baby, I love you

Little one born
Daddy kisses Mommy
he says:

Baby, I love you

Poetry

It's poetry this week for class, and I thought I'd share a couple of the journal entry assignments so far. (Alas, no sonnets yet, Alan)
