Gets you right here

Sorry if this sounds like wallowing in self-pity; it's not intended to be such. I just thought it was too cute not to share.

So I'm sitting here and the person I'm chatting with asks for a pic of me and Alan, so I send them a link, but looking at it makes me sniffle. Morgan stops playing in the background and comes over to my desk and looks up at me.

"Mama, what matter?"

"I'm sad, baby," I answer, realizing this is probably the first time she's seen this emotion in real life.

"Why?"

"I miss Alan. He went very far away and it makes me sad."

She pouts. "Hurts?"

"Yes, honey, it hurts."

"Where hurt, mommy?"

I point to my heart. "Right here."

"I kiss it," she says, and proceeds to climb up in my lap and do just that. "All better, mommy?"

Which of course is a heart twinge of a completely different sort, and manages to suitably distract me. Who needs teddy bears that don't snuggle back? I've got a two-year-old who can kiss away heartache!
