WTF John Barrowman is _Scottish_???!

Was this a big duh to everyone and I'm just slow on the uptake? I heard he was British but raised in the States, hence the accent.

Yeah, his mom's family's all Scottish, and he was born in--oh, some city like Edinburgh, I forget--but raised mostly in Illinois. Listen to the commentary track for TEC/TDD and you'll hear him do a Scottish accent. It's rather charming.

Glasgow. Yeah, I was trawling YouTube and found a clip where he's doing some interview and slips into and out of the Scots and they're like, "and that's your real voice?" I've noticed sometimes that his American accent almost sounds _too_ American, like he's trying too hard or something. Especially on r's. Muaha, now we know why.

Heh - I spent *way* too much time yesterday caught by JB videos on Youtube, listening to the pretty. I so prefer the Scots accent to the American one. I swear, when he does that, I could happily listen to him read the phone book (oh, how our opinions of people change!)

If you're looking for other interviews where he does the accent (and explains why his partner, Scott, doesn't like it when he does!), check out the Charlotte Church interview (I think it's #2 of 3 or something)... gods, we're talking serious linguistic-pretty...

I would love to hear him and David just go at it in their brogues. Probably wouldn't understand a damn word but oh the pretty...

Heh - I don't know why, but every time they appear in the same interview (and there are a few clips that seem to feature one of them interviewing the other; or them just appearing on the same segment), JB always uses his American accent, and DT his natural one. It would be lovely to hear them both doing the Scots one at the same time...

Oh, and hearing JB sing the Dr Who theme on the Weakest Link with DT (and everyone else!) providing backup vocals and clapping? Priceless!

Hahaha, yes! That show was fantastic. I loved Noel (Mickey) flirting with Ann and his joke about a "chocolate orange." I don't know how she keeps a straight face...

*grins* - yeah, I remember reading that when I looked him up on IMDB after I first watched "The Empty Child" back in S1.

I heard him do a *lovely* soft scottish accent just for a few moments when I was watching through The Friday Night Project episode he guest-hosted (vids are on Youtube if you want to track them down).

TFNP is so *very* not my kind of humour, but I found myself enduring it anyway for JB's segments. Partly, I think out of sheer amazement that if this appearance is to be believed, it's nigh impossible to tell the difference between Mr Barroman being Mr Barrowman, and Mr Barrowman being Jack. Then again, I'm not sure if this is because he's not acting at all when he's being Jack, or he's simply acting the same character no matter which cameras he's in front of...

But yeah... the Scottish accent of doom. Almost as lovely as hearing Mr Tennant speak in *his* native accent. Then again, I'm kind of biassed when it comes to Scots accents...

Heh. I've seen David Tennant's Friday Night Project episode, will have to go looking for John's...

There are 6 of them - each around 10 minutes. I got up to #4 before the conscience beast attacked, and I couldn't put off getting on with my assignment any longer.

I liked the slot where they brought in DT by videoconference... I get the impression those two get on *fairly* well :-)
