Christmas report
Dec. 27th, 2005 08:35 pmOkay, so I'm a little slow with this. I might not have done it at all if I didn't have an adorable new icon to show off (yes, that's Morgan). Taken totally by accident as she tried to climb up on the couch with us. We didn't think it would come out at all because she was so close to the camera, but I quite like the way it turned out.
Eenyhoo. Rew came up on Saturday and we had a nice dinner; the three of us and Morgan. Afterward we opened our gifts and most of Morgan's (there were so many for her that she hit burnout and bedtime before she was finished). I gave her a teddy bear that's bigger than she is, as my dad had given me when I was her age (my Teddy came with me to college and I still sleep with him). Unfortunately, she seemed less enthused about this precious tradition than about the 30-key piano Rew got her. But he was _so_ pleased that she was enjoying his gift that I could hardly be mad at him for it. We got dad a huge set of Legos (all right, we were having a little too much fun shopping in Toys R Us); actually it's four sets: two airplanes, a helicopter, and a battleship, and these things are huge. We put together one of the planes after Morgan had gone to bed which was a fun family project.
I came away with:
D&D 3.5 Player's handbook (as I will be getting involved with a game next summer)
warm and toasty fuzzy slippers
assorted fruity bath gels
gift certificates to Bath and Body Works and Best Buy (so that I can buy Serenity)
Jenga
oh, and a trip to Mexico
Rew and I stayed up until, like 2 am playing D&D Heroes, which meant we were rather late waking up for Christmas morning. Turns out that was okay because dad had completely forgotten to put his "Santa" gifts in our stockings, anyway. Heh. We all got assorted sweets (chocolate oranges and cherry cordials and whatnot), Rew got Serenity, I got the Brothers Grimm, and dad got a cool oldie-looking Monopoly set in a neat wooden box (or rather, "vintage," just like dad himself *snerk*). Dad and I helped Morgan open the rest of her presents, each of which she played with for a few seconds, then toddled over to the piano and started plonking away on it again.
We all headed down to Grandma and Popa's that afternoon for finger-food. This was not supposed to be a gift-giving event, but just about everyone there went home with at least one more. It's funny how much "I know we weren't going to do gifts, but..." there was going on. *shrug* My family likes to spoil each other. The food was good, the company loud, and everyone thought Morgan was just precious in her new Cristmas outfit (amazing I managed not to get a single good picture of her in it).
And, as always, after all the lead-up it was over way too quickly. Dad and I will likely take down our decorations tomorrow (when I have my own place they will totally stay up until Twelfth Night, but dad's a no-Christmas-after-New-Year's type).
I just realized I use parentheses way too much.
Also, whaddya think: next year's Christmas card?
