My fingers hurt.

For those of you who have ever had acrylic nails put on, you know how a few days afterwards your nail bed is sore? Yeah, it's like that. (So, not _quite_ as bad as my screaming Westley mood icon would seem to indicate)

I dunno if it's a good thing or bad. I'd tend to think good, because the recent onset of said pain would seem to indicate that there's growth and progress happening, though on the outside I can't see it. It's mostly on the fingers with the longest nails (so not the two casualties I had a couple weeks ago, who are scrabblig to catch up), so I think it's probably to do with the fact that since my nails are longer than pretty much they've ever been - naturally, at least - they're starting to hit things and be pressed upon and thus apply weird angles of pressure which my poor complacent nail beds are not used to. And the longer they get, the more they will be subject to this new and exciting stimuli (which, sadly, is actually mildly painful).

The theory behind thinking the pain signifies a bad thing is the idea that it's coming from my nails separating from the quick as they grow out. Which is disappointing because, nice as having a free edge is, my _main_ purpose here is to extend the quick itself, so that if/when someday, for various reasons, I no longer have that lovely free edge, at least my nail then won't be taken back to halfway down my fingertip (which is where they have generally been my whole life).

I'm just hoping/expecting that, like with acrylics, the pain will go away in a few days.
