More good news from school
Mar. 15th, 2007 02:18 pmI read my second Comp. essay aloud in class for our circle critique today, and afterward the teacher invited me to say what I liked or didn't like about it, and then she opened it up to the other students, and there was absolute silence. Every other student who's read this semester has had at least one other student speak up with something, even if it was as simple as, "I think that should be a dash instead of a semicolon." None of that from anybody.
No news is good news, though, 'cause they gave me back the copies I had handed out, and all their comments at the end and in the margins said it was well thought-out and put-together, and the teacher gave me an A. Huzzah.
And I'm also very glad that I didn't write on Hills Like White Elephants. You'd think that with eight stories to choose from, we'd get a pretty good variety of response. No, sir. Fully half the class wrote on Hemingway. What gives? I was the first person to write (I mean, read what I wrote) about The Yellow Wallpaper, and today was the second day of readings. Nobody thus far has even touched The Necklace, either, which I think is a wonderful piece.
