janetlin: (TARDIS)
The other day I discovered that Профессор is an old-school Dr. Who fan! We were talking about what kind of books and tv shows we like to watch (in Russian, of course), and I said that I watch Stargate and Dr. Who. He grinned and said that he used to watch it, too, back in the days of Tom Baker and the infamous scarf. Sadly, I don't know from old school, so he asked how it was that I watched it. I got all squeeful (in English; I can't squee yet in Russian) and told him about the new series. He doesn't get SciFi so he hadn't seen it.

So on Monday I brought him my two seasons on DVD and he was very excited about them and happy to learn they could be bought at Best Buy. Though his son (who turns out to be rather cute) mused, "You know, it would be easy enough to copy those..." Профессор put his hand up and looked away with this, "I don't know you," look on his face. Heheh.

On Wednesday when we came in for class, the first thing he started talking about was Dr. Who. :D Turns out he had seen the Nine episodes, caught them somehow, so he'd started with the season two discs. The Christmas Invasion was good, New Earth was squicky (not his word, of course), which I agreed with. And he says he's going to try to hook me up with some of the old Doctors. Squee!

Oh, and this morning he sent me an email with a link to pictures of the Season 3 screening. Isn't he the coolest?!

On Tuesday, my attorney's office emailed Johnnie the final forms he had to sign (since he doesn't have an attorney and is thus basically representing himself, there are waivers and disclosures and whatnot for him), and I just got a phone call from the paralegal saying that Johnnie faxed them back, and they just need another $1500 to cover the work that's been done, and then they can file the goddamn things.

I know, sounds awfully similar to the way we left things back in November, when Johnnie and I supposedly signed everything. But the paralegal sounded very relieved and happy when she called, so I don't think she's just leading me on again. So I won't have my name back for my birthday, but hopefully soon after.

Things were going too well.

My composition class met in one of the library computer labs today, so we could learn how to use all the various kinds of resources the library has for our research papers. Afterwards, I'd walked all the way back to my car before I realized that I'd left my denim jacket in the lab. So I walk back, only to find that the lab is locked up and the lights are out, so I can't even see if my jacket is still in there. I manage to find the office of the librarian who had been helping us, but it's locked and dark, too, and there is no notice of office hours. So I call her and leave a voicemail asking if anyone turned the jacket in to her, or if our professor took it. Then on my way to my car again, Johnnie calls saying that my child support check was returned "Undeliverable as addressed" (despite that I've gotten every other child support check, which was addressed the exact same way). Now, I've had problems recieving my mail here before (a letter from Alan, Morgan's Christmas present from Johnnie, my invitation to register for school), but a few weeks ago I went into the branch and lodged a complaint, and the lady at the counter filled out a form and said she would get it to my carrier. But apparently that hasn't fixed the problem. I'm sure that _paying_ for a P.O. box might (maybe) help - if it's an issue with the carrier bringing it to my house, then just cut out the middle-man - but something about giving them money to passively fix a problem that shouldn't be a problem in the first place doesn't sit right with me.
