janetlin: (Writing)
All right, now that I have no papers to write for school, my creative juices can be devoted to more fun stuff. But what?

I've been having the urge to write lately but can't seem to come up with anything. So, hopefully as a kick-start I'll yoink a meme that was going around last week:

I will write a drabble (100 words exactly. (we'll see...)) for the first ten (or whatever) commenters to request one. In return, they have to post this in their journal (if they want). You may request the character and/or the pair for the following fandoms: Harry Potter, Doctor Who (New Skool only, please)... Hm, it seems my writer's block extends even to thinking of fandoms, so anything in my Interests list is fair game. Please comment with the character/pairing and a prompt of some sort (word, emotion, link to an image, etc.)

I'm kind of nervous opening it up like this, but 100 words shouldn't be that difficult to crank out, right? Right. Responses will be posted at my writing journal, [livejournal.com profile] scribblesiece, because I need to blow out the cobwebs over there.

You know how they say when you're stuck in your writing to just write anything, just keep your pen moving, even if it's nothing other than, "gah, why can't I think of anything?" over and over? Had a moment like that today, and it spawned poetry, of all things! Once again a pantoum, which is probably my favorite form.

Writer's Block

What to write about?
This isn't what I should be doing right now;
There are files to tidy and documents to scan,
But I can't seem to concentrate.

This isn't what I should be doing right now,
Doodling while I wait for inspiration to strike,
But I can't seem to concentrate.
Haven't been able to concentrate for a few years now.

Doodling while I wait for inspiration to strike,
Half-formed thoughts flit through my mind.
Haven't been able to concentrate for a few years now.
Did pregnancy hormones fry my brain?

Half-formed thoughts flit through my mind.
I used to be so clever and prolific,
Did pregnancy hormones fry my brain?
Other women seem to manage all right.

I used to be so clever and prolific,
Back in high school I was always writing something.
Other women seem to manage all right;
I should be able to do this.

Back in high school I was always writing something.
Now I'm juggling a child and a job.
I should be able to do this,
But I'm so busy being busy that I end up doing nothing.

Now I'm juggling a child and a job:
There are files to tidy and documents to scan,
But I'm so busy being busy that I end up doing nothing.
What to write about?

What do you write when you don't know what to write about? Write about your writer's block.

God is chuckling at me right now, I can hear it.
