janetlin: (Morgan)
Mommyfail for, over the past three or four days, going, "it's just a cough, she'll get better."

Morgan has "a small pneumonia on the left side" according to the doctor we saw today. She's had this cough for like the past week, but in the past few days it's been sounding worse. Kind of raspy/rumbly. Mom has something similar which no doctor has been able to diagnose or fix where any time she coughs, she sounds like a seal or something. So we thought that Morgan just has Mom's cough.

Normally when Morgan gets sick it doesn't slow her down much. She stays active and happy and aside from not wanting to infect the other kids at school there wouldn't be much reason to keep her home. But this time was different and actually bothered her. She'd wake up coughing and would cry that she'd be sick forever and "Mommy I don't want to cough anymore." So Alan and I came home from Mom and Rich's boat last night (we were supposed to sleep over to help with cleaning/4th of July prep work today) so we could take her to the doctor today. To look at her happily playing in the waiting room you wouldn't have thought anything was wrong. But the nurse and doctor said she was having some difficulty breathing (which unfortunately was news to Alan and me - she hasn't been wheezing or anything). So they tried a nebulizer but that didn't really help, so they took an x-ray and that's how they found the pneumonia.

Oh, bit of humor: as we were getting ready for the x-ray the doctor was looking at Morgan's t-shirt, because there's glittery "fairy dust" around Tinkerbell and if it's metallic it would of course interfere. "I don't know what this is," he commented, pointing to the dust. Morgan replied helpfully, "That's Tinkerbell! She's a fairy."

So Morgan has some antibiotics and if she doesn't show improvement in 3-4 days and/or return to normal in 10 we are to take her back in, and also to take the x-ray in to her primary doctor for a follow-up in six weeks.

Yes, God, thank you for this kick in the pants to get some kind of health insurance.
