I feel surprisingly good about the Russian final I just took. Like, I think I might actually have aced it. *gasp* I think the only mistakes I made were little things like в versus на and when they were prepositional versus when they were accusative.

Oh, and yeah. There was a three-line dialogue I totally just skipped because I could not for the life of me remember the verb he was wanting us to use. elven_alchemist, как сказать "to order" по-русский?

Oh, that's tricky;-)
To order with meaning to tell someone to do something is приказать.
To order with meaning to make arrangement for buying something is заказать (heh, this word also means "to make an order to killer to kill someone";-)
To order with meaning to get rid of chaos is упорядочить or навести порядок.

заказать sounds familiar. It was in the context of ordering food in a restaurant.

And whoa, упорядочить sounds funny (am assuming the stress is on the я).

And I was thinking about this as I was walking to my car: in English we like to use the subjunctive to make requests sound more polite. "I would like..." instead of "I want...", "Could you please..." instead of just "please do x." Does Russian do something similar?

Oh, by the way, the word по-русский actually sounds like по-русски (without the last letter). If you say it like (po-russki) that it will be real Russian prononciation

In this context the one you said is correct.
Yes, stress is correct too.
Polite forms:
не могли бы вы...
я бы хотел...
могу ли я...
And there are ancient forms like не соблаговолите ли вы and не будете ли вы столь любезны, they are not used nowadays, they are more like 19th century stuff. If you say it now it would be either a rough joke which you can use with informal friends, or just a kinda of insult. For example, if someone sits on your desk and you don't like it you can say "не будете ли вы столь любезны убрать свою задницу с моего стола";-)))))) This is rude;-)
