Wedding plans proceed apace. Save-the-date cards have been sent out. I'm very pleased and think they came out adorable. Ceremony and reception venues (the only one I've seen in person) have been booked, with a deposit down on another possibility for the reception that apparently has a bigger dance floor. This could be the deciding factor because I want this thing to be a party. We'll see it when I'm there in August... Hrm, which means we can't print the invitations until then? Not sure I like that idea.
So, etiquette check: can the invitations simply say, "Reception to follow" and not specify where, and on the day of - in the program or something and/or by word of mouth - tell people where it will be? Or will not giving a location for the reception on the invitation make it seem like we're a) not having one; or b) we are, but the holder of that particular invitation is not invited?
Mom and I are masochists and have decided to make not only my gown and two flower girls' dresses, but also the dresses for my two-maybe-three bridesmaids. Even buying material from Britex, it should come out way less expensive than trying to buy any or all of the above from a store/online. Now the tricky bit will be fittings. Oh, and picking the bridesmaids in the first place. *facepalm*
Oh, and more masochism, and because mom and I are both anal about this sort of thing, if we can't find vests for the groomsmen in the right shade to go with my girls' dresses, we're going to make those, too. *double facepalm* I might survive this summer but I'm not sure my sewing machine will. But, man, everyone will look snappy.
Also it occurs to me that I don't yet have a pic of my ring online. So here ya go: mah bling. let me show u it. Please ignore the ugly short nails and the odd lighting in the office...

Date: 2008-06-06 07:55 am (UTC)What *is* useful is to specify what will provided in the way of catering at said reception so people know in advance whether you're laying on a full meal, finger food, or just drinks and nibbles (and thus basically, whether they should factor on eating beforehand); and whether the reception will follow immediately after the ceremony, or at some point later in the day (weddings I've been at in the past have done both, and they don't always say in advance what to expect)
Just my 0.02c - other folks might feel differently

Date: 2008-06-06 01:40 pm (UTC)I think the daisies were quite à propos! =)
I also think that "reception to follow" is appropriate, too. I mean, I figured you weren't having people fly for 24 hours for a 30 minute ceremony and then, hey, thanks for coming, see ya, maybe. Yeah, no. So, as long as people know how to get where they're going before they have to be there, you're fine.
And, yeah, you're a masochist. ;)

Date: 2008-06-07 09:19 pm (UTC)boringsolitaire, but at the same time, _too_ much bling would be out of character. This is nice and in between and feels very me. The wedding band is another set of leaves for the other side.no subject
