Well, that was different. I think I went into it expecting something more sci-fi (though really how much more sci-fi can you get than people with programmable personalities?), and was surprised by how, well, normal it felt. I imagine, though, the further into the series we get and the more questions that are raised about the shades-of-grey ethics of wiping people's personalities, and the free will concern of whether or not the Actives really did sign up for what they're doing, that seeming normality itself is going to end up causing a bit of cognitive dissonance. And Joss seems to enjoy that sort of thing, so yeah; I think it's intentional, so I'll roll with it in the meantime.

It's so nice to see Tahmoh (how cool is that name?!) Penikett in something other than a uniform or flight suit. The boy cleans up very nicely. Also it was nice to see Enver onscreen, if a little odd because, dude, I remember him on stage. He hasn't changed a bit (well, fake Russian accent aside). I was a little confused about his character, though. In anything I'd read ahead of time that mentioned his character, he was called Victor and was another Doll. But when I checked Fox's site today to double-check the time, suddenly his name is Lubov and he's a Russian mafioso. WTF, did they rewrite his character or is Lubov just a persona assumed by Victor for some reason? Inquiring minds want to know.

I was fascinated by the glimpse of a woman in a kimono getting into one of the vans to go off on a mission (excuse me, "engagement"). This show has such great potential for fanfiction, if nothing else. Who wants to put bets down on how long it will take? Ballard/Topher? Femmeslash between Echo and Sierra (dude, they stole my name!!) in their downtime? Something shockingly kinky for Miss Ice Queen DeWitt? Who, by the way, is just unbelievably gorgeous. Srsly, some girls get all the good genes.

So yes, good times. I do look forward to when it really picks up steam and the episodes aren't so, well, episodic, but I can understand why the premiere kind of has to be, and likewise with the next several episodes, too. Let the stragglers who were waiting to hear reviews before getting on board do so, make sure everyone's on the same page, and then here we go. I can't wait.
