The kickoff last night went well, despite my anxiety about it. Conversation (for me) was awkward for the first bit but eventually I got comfortable. Mostly when I discovered that not only are all these people writers, most of them are flaming geeks like me. Two of them were wearing World of Warcraft t-shirts, so yeah.

I got 765 words in my notebook in the 3 hours I was there. I know handwriting is much much slower than typing, but in my timed writing exercises I was doing on average 245 words in 15 minutes. So, _very_ much slower. I probably shouldn't have chit-chatted with the people sitting around me so much. But it's hard to avoid when one can't really ignore/drown out their voices. I'm not normally the type to write to music, but I'm thinking now that the girl at the other end of the table who had earbuds in all night might have had the right idea. I'm glad I went, though, and I will probably go to other write-ins throughout the month, but I think as long as I'm reasonably productive at home I'm probably better off staying here.

Huh. I was going to post some nifty widgets with my wordcount and Sacramento's Word War with Finland and Pittsburgh but they seem not to be activated yet. Boo.

Bam! said the lady, 2k in the can. About 700 of that was in about an hour and a half after Morgan went to bed. Yep, that's roughly equivalent to my wordcount from three hours at the kickoff party last night/this morning. Apparently I really do work better on my own, even if hand-writing is achingly (literally) slow no matter the circumstances.

Now, should I keep going until I crash, or call it good for tonight and save some creative juice as a starter for tomorrow? Like sourdough bread. I don't know why I always make that association; I hate sourdough.

In any case, the next few minutes will be spent flailing happy-dancing in the living room.

Rock on, wrimos!
