We had to read through the defeat of Grendel for my British Lit class, but I figured I'd go ahead and finish it off so I can count it in my challenge. Oh, and cool moment: through clever timing in raising my hand during class, I was able to read aloud the last _two_ sections (everyone else only read one each, so I guess the teacher liked my style/voice), which are the ones where Beowulf actually fights Grendel. I mean, the descriptions of weapons and armor and "I knew your father, he did x, and I've heard of your great deeds, they are y" are good flavor text, it's hard to read them with real feeling. But I got the good stuff. And this thing was _meant_ to be spoken aloud, so I was a happy little Scandinavian girl that I got to do so.
Review? Nothing new, of course. Grendel, Grendel's mom, the dragon. Much flowery handing out of said armor and weapons, telling people how cool/honorale in battle one is and now not cool/dishonorable they are. If you haven't read it... how have you come so far in life in an English-speaking country without having read Beowulf??
