Icon meme from [livejournal.com profile] telepwen

This is just a dressy pretty (I used to have many more along this theme). I like the bustled Victorian style, and since it's Victorian it's also appropriate for me to use when playing or talking about my Gaslight Call of Cthulhu character, Lady Alice Havisham.

Mmmmm. This is Michael Shanks, better known as Dr. Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1. This is during his time off from the show, when he played Hamlet. Who can resist a hot guy with a sword?

This artist's (Jessica Galbreth) zodiac pieces are the prettiest ones I've seen around. Aries is my sign, so I went trawling around and fell in love with this one.

I think I found this one through [livejournal.com profile] basicbases. It's for taking-care-of-my-nails (and resolving once again not to bite them) and/or bragging about how long they've grown.

This is my "summer" icon in my nature group. I'm an outdoorsy person, so this river running through a forest reminds me of pretty much every hike I've ever been on.

Ha, how did I know you would pick this one? I yoinked it from the comment thread arising from this post by [livejournal.com profile] buttfacemakani. Reconstructed!George does bear a pretty good resemblance to her Lucius.

I have yet to find any Dr. Who/Harry Potter crossover fic, but when I do, I'll be ready! It's a bit of an in-joke for DW watchers (who know that the Doctor not-so-secretly wishes that someday one of his regenerations will turn out ginger). So Arthur and Harry going into a phone-box-that-is-not-a-phone-box is just too perfect.

Also from [livejournal.com profile] so_out_of_ideas

is one I went hunting for when I was anticipating my trip to Edinburgh this past summer. I thought I'd do a lot more posting regarding that trip than I actually ended up doing. Thus it doesn't get used much.

is the latest to be my "mommy baby" icon. I used to have one of a woman holding a baby, but this one is kind of a cute inside joke (okay, just to me). Morgan's nickname is "monkey" because when she was born she had this wild baby orangutan hair (also a good shot of her first set of casts for her wonky (also monkey-like) feet). Plus she was born in the year of the Monkey. So not just a mommy and her baby, but mommy and baby monkeys.

I specifically searched for an icon like this to use in response to [livejournal.com profile] kiwifruitbat's... huh, he took it down. Anyway, it was something to do with chocolate along the lines of "come to the Dark Side" or some such, and I felt like being cheeky. I really should put a "Nom nom nom" caption on this one. Though it does kind of speak for itself.

Ah, English. How I love thee. I don't use this much because I don't tend to get into discussions about historical linguistics (yet. mwa ha). I just think it's hilarious. The English language is like... when you were a kid with watercolor paints, by the end of whatever project you were working on, your cup of water for rinsing your brush was all murky and gross. It's like that. And I love the imagery of English chasing other languages down alleyways to beat them up and steal new vocabulary. *English holds Italian at gunpoint*: You! Gimme all your musical terms, now! ... Does that not make anyone laugh other than me?

This is just a generic present, for use when talking about presents or birthdays. This is another label - like mommy baby - that I sometimes just randomly plug a new icon into.

This is one I'm happy not to use very often. Just what it says on the tin, it's for crashing depression.

Booksbooksbooks, my first love. Perhaps almost as much as I love reading itself, I love collecting books. Yes, I'm the kind of person who will buy another copy of a book I already own in paperback, just to have it in hardback. Or in the interest of having all the books in a series match.

and from [livejournal.com profile] ratty...

This is a musical joke. The symbol indicates a note is to be held, and rit. stands for ritardando, which means to slow down. But it ends up looking like "hold me, retard."

This is fanart of Nynaeve al'Meara, a character in the Wheel of Time series, and is the only icon that I have had continually since starting this journal. When we first meet Nynaeve, she's very prickly and has a short fuse, but as the books progress... something happens to calm her down. This picture is of her after that thing has happened, so she's very serene and content (though she still of course has her prickly moments). I just love the look of utter calm on her face, for once in her life.

This made me laugh the first time I saw it. This is my alternative to WTF? Though technically, it should be ¿qué?

The Tenth Doctor and an adorable kitten in the Season 3 episode, Gridlock. My keyword for this is "cutest thing evar" and I'm not sure whether I'm referring to him or the cat...

The chandelier from Phantom of the Opera. For use when discussing anything "... of Doom" or being cheeky about things going to shit.

This is from a painting by J.W. Waterhouse, showing Miranda (from The Tempest) on a rocky shore, looking out at the shipwreck that has stranded her and her father. This one is sometimes my default, usually shortly after Alan leaves. The young woman looking wistfully out to sea reminds me of myself when he's gone.

This is Drs. Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson of Stargate SG-1. They are both absolute geniuses (she in physics and spacey stuff, he in languages and archaeology). This clip is from an episode that shows an alternative reality present because something got goofed up in the past. Alt!Sam works at NASA but as just a copy editor or something, Alt!Daniel teaches ESL. So while there are lots of icons of Sam & Daniel with captions like "wondertwins" and "the brains of the operation," etc, I liked this one where they look kind of dorky and out of their element. I use this for those, "Ha! My brain works!" moments.

Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along. Also, if there are any icons of mine that you want an explanation for, you can comment and ask, though this will also result in you getting seven icons chosen for you to explain.
