check it out! )

I just love all the details. The bird beak on the Sorceress' headdress (and the fact she has wings instead of arms), the shiny power around She-Ra as she transforms, the jewel in the middle of her bodice, and Swiftwind omg. I'm actually tempted to frame this one.

Despite my constant assertions that Morgan is absolutely brilliant, I have for a while been a bit concerned about her development. I remember from my Child Development class that most children draw "tadpole people" (a head directly connected to legs and perhaps arms) by the age of two, and Morgan has never drawn anything vaguely resembling _anything_. The art papers she brings home from school are full of just scribbles, though they are at least very precise and individual scribbles (which means the fine motor skill part of the process is working just fine).

Until the other day when she randomly came up with this )

People! Discernible people! With heads and torsos (one even has a neck) and arms and legs with distinct hands and feet at the ends of them! Such a _huge_ leap, and so quickly, from what she had been doing. Oh, and the circles inside the heads are cheeks. A rather odd facial feature to focus on - most kids start with a nose or eyes and a smile - but maybe that's due to how much we all kiss her cheeks. Perhaps that's therefore the most important part of the face, for her.

The largish figure in the middle, with arms, is me. The bigger figure to the left of that one is Popa (my maternal grandfather). The two in the top right are Grandpa (my dad, with the neck) and her, and the one in the lower right is Uncle Rew. I'm not sure why those particular ones are those particular people, but when I asked her again a few days after she drew this, those identities had not changed. Oh, and also somewhere on the left side is Rusty, Grandpa's golden retriever. I'll have to take her word for that one, though, 'cause I can't find him.

Just wanted to squee and share the love for my new wallpaper, shamelessly yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] buttfacemakani's latest picdump. Malfoys are so pretty.

Actually, it's been a while since [livejournal.com profile] elven_alchemist and I were doing so, but while schmoozing around today, I found such pretties! These illustrations are absolutely stunning.

Lucy, am I correct in translating Сказки Туманного Альбиона as "Fairy Tales of Misty/Foggy Albion (England)"? These are _English_ stories? This one looks rather Tristan/Isolde to me, but none of the others are familiar.

ETA: They are, indeed. Британские рыцарские сказки ~ British chivalric tales. _So_ awesome. I totally want this book now!

OMG I was schmoozing around looking for Malfoy fanart and this just about killed me.

Oh good lord, [livejournal.com profile] buttfacemakani has some of the most gorgeous and poignant pieces of Malfoy art I've ever seen, and yet she still manages to come up with cracktastic sketches like this!

Sh!t, my stomach hurts now...

ETA: aforementioned poignancy: Blue and Death.

And something that makes the mommy in me just squee: The Malfoys are adorable!

Was schmoozing around DeviantArt today and found this pretty.

The artist's comments: "A moment of peace shared between a knight and his lady. The artist wanted to show a deeper love than just passion or lust, but the peace that comes from being with someone who accepts you completely for who you are. She describes it as that one person you can always be yourself around, and that love that's just because you are, and not for what you do."

I think she hit it right on the head with this. I just love the emotion that's in it; him not smiling as if he doesn't think he's worthy - as a knight he has seen death and killed men and done who knows what other distasteful things - but her quiet smile is reassuring that she still indeed loves him, for who he is and regardless of what he may have done. The level of intimacy between these two people is obvious, from their touching foreheads to their hands simply resting next to each other, and those are the only two points of contact. They're not in an embrace or kissing or even holding hands as most would expect a picture of "lovers" to be, but for these two just what they have is perfect. All they need is to be near each other.

Here's hoping we all find that kind of love some day.
