Oh god oh god oh god oh god. Boiling Rock 1&2 have just killed me ded. There was such fantasticness all over the place. And the... when they... and then she... DUDE. There just are no words but oohhhh such good squishy. Sokka and Zuko, as usual, have the very best lines.

Sokka: ...are you happy now?
Zuko: I'm never happy.

Sokka: My first girlfriend turned into the moon.
Zuko: *pause* That's rough, buddy.

Zuko: Hey! Watch who you're shoving!
Inmate: I think you mean _whom_ I'm shoving.

*dies*

When I picked Morgan up from daycare this evening, her teacher told me that she'd been gushing about her pet dragon named Zuko. :D

"I just love firebending, but he burned Katara and then she put her hands in the water and then they were all clean! And then the boy says, 'What did you do?!'" (she even dropped her voice and scowled, it was so adorable)

So tonight Alan put on the super deformed shorts and presented them to Morgan as "Avatar babies." And my toddler, with the attention span of a small insect, sat and watched, utterly rapt. Mwahahahaha.

I've become so hooked on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Whoa lord. Everything else in my Netflix queue is on hold while I watch every single DVD I can get my hands on. And then they're going on my Christmas list, 'cause it's definitely the type of thing that can be rewatched.

I'd heard general squeeing about it from a few sources, but I saw some screenshots and realized it was (or at least looks like) anime, and that pretty much killed any interest for me. I have yet to meet an anime that I like. Okay, with the exception of Princess Mononoke (hippie like me, who'da guessed?). But [livejournal.com profile] buttfacemakani's occasional Avatar fanart - and the subsequent squeeing and fangirling in the comments of said posts - piqued my curiosity, so I checked it out. And holy cow, Avatar is absolutely brilliant. The animation is beautiful: the attention to detail is just amazing. The characters use actual martial arts stances, so it's not just punch punch kick random backflip etc with reused cells. And each of the elements uses a different style, so it's fascinating to watch a Water bender with these graceful, flowing Tai Chi moves face off with a Fire bender's quick Northern Shaolin kicks and jabs. This has absolutely nothing to do with Katara/Zuko. Nope. Absolutely not. :D

There's amazing character depth and development in both the heroes and villains, and the story is addictive engaging. There are no random side-trip episodes, everything contributes to the overall plot, which is saved from being formulaic and predictable (this is intended for children, remember) by crosses and double-crosses and bad guys turning good and vice versa. I'm genuinely curious what's going to happen in each episode and how the story is going to progress. Which is more than can be said for a good deal of mainstream adult tv shows.

One half-hour episode per week would so not be enough for me. I'm so glad I'm watching them this way and can see five episodes on a disc back-to-back. Except OMG what am I going to do when I've watched all the DVD's that are out so far? I don't even have cable to watch in the meantime, I'll have to wait until the next volume comes out, OH NOES!!1!11

Seriously, absolutely fantastic stuff. I highly recommend it to _anybody_.

And I totally have a crush on Prince Zuko

Edited to employ icon perfection.
